BE THE FIRST TO SEE OUR BEACH BOARDS

Stylish information boards are set to become a common feature of Blue Flag beaches in England and Northern Ireland.

British people make around 298 million visits to the coast each year and it is hoped that the new signs will help make their stay safer and more enjoyable.

The information board will contain easy to follow safety guidelines and details of Blue Flag status. Visitors will be able to see whether there is a lifeguard in operation, which water sports are permitted and restricted and any details of any handy facilities available.

A map of the beach will guide visitors to where the Blue Flag has been awarded for water quality, giving them the opportunity to bathe in the cleanest spot.

Peter Gibson, spokesperson for Blue Flag said: “Beaches have cleaned up their act and as a result more and more people are taking advantage of these home grown treasures.

“The sign will give beach operators the chance to show off their Blue Flag status – the rubber stamp of good quality. It will also enhance a visitors stay at the coastal destination reassuring them it will be litter-free with clean water and top notch facilities.”

ENCAMS, the charity behind the Blue Flag scheme, has been working closely with Coleraine Council in Northern Ireland to produce a model information board, which will be rolled out to all Blue Flag beaches in England and Northern Ireland. To view the model, click on the images below to enlarge.
